This was shot during the most misserable 4 hours of my life.
During the Journey home, we needed to switch the plane from skis to wheels. In order to accomplish this we landed at a place called “Sky Blue” which was aptly named due to the blue ice that has been kept clear for years and years. Clear enough for us to land, switch plane configurations to wheels, and take off again. This is necessary due to the next stop being Rothera, Antarctica, where there is a gravel runway.
When we landed the weather was beautiful. No wind, sunny, and warm. 20 minutes later, a constant 40 knot wind hit us and never left. Freezing FREEZING cold wind, and snow, beat on us for 4 hours while we changed the plane to wheels. Lots of the work involved bare hands and taking your hands out of your gloves in these temperatures hurt. This was after we had all been up for about 20 hours. Not fun, but we sucked it up and got it done.

that wind was horrible…lucky for us we were just about done when the wind hit….nice landing by the way, i still have to get you that video.
Yikes. I could never bare that! Ive always wanted to go to Antartica. Your shots are lovely and have been following you for a long time now. Nice work.
