When we hopped off the plane in Sri Lanka asked Becky if she wanted to play a game of ‘count the guns’. She didn’t believe that we’d see any guns, but sure enough, within the first 5 minutes, we had lost count. Sri Lanka is a country that has been at civil war for the last 20 years, and recently there has been some major attacks, so the area around the airport was packed with military. Even driving through the countryside we ran into checkpoints.
Living in Canada the only guns we see are the ones on the hips of policemen. It was a very unfamiliar sight to see all those guns.
We knew the countries status before we got here, and we were informed by our guide that we had absolutely nothing to worry about. He was right, we never felt unsafe. Heck, by the end of the trip I was taking pictures of soldiers and even posing with them.

this is a very intimidating picture. But I love the detail in it!
