Haven’t posted anything for a while.. sorry about that. To win you over again here is a picture of my lovely wife. She seems to get the most hits on the site, so I’m trying to win you all over again.
Its been busy in the land of islands. I flew 100 or so hours in the last month, which doesn’t sound like much, but it equates to 5 hours in the aircraft a day. That doesn’t include the time sitting between flights, either at a resort, or on our crappy crew room couches. Wake up at 4am to catch the boat to the airport, start flying when the sun rises, and get home when its dark. We are allowed to work a total duty time of 65 hours a week. That means that the company can make us work 13 hours a day, 5 days straight. I don’t know of many jobs that hold those kind of hours. To think that we can stand up, let alone have 15 peoples lives in our hands, at the end of the 65th hour, is a testament to the human condition.
So, its hard to be creative during my 2 days off, where I want to lay prone for 48 hours. But, we like to take advantage of the time we are spending down here.
Today I went (Becky was sick) on a dive to a sunken ship (wreck dive) called the Maldives Victory. Pretty incredible. We park the dohni next to a rope that is attached to the ship’s mast, then we pull ourselves down the rope as a massive cargo ship materializes out of the deep blue, 30 meters below. As soon as your eyes adjust you are taken aback by the mass of metal below you. We checked out the cargo holds, and some of the ships control rooms. We saw some of the old cargo like liquor bottles, tons of cigarette packages, and pallets of bags containing some unknown substance. Pretty amazing stuff.

I, for one, check your website every day, whether or not you post a pic of my daughter! However, it is lovely to see her beautiful face! I can only use my imagination on what it is like to dive and see wreckage from way-back-when. I have to wonder why, when the ship first sank, someone did not empty the cargo as much as they could, knowing that there might be some value in this find?
I can see why you get the most hits…Becky is a hottie! Rooowwwrrrr! Hope she is feelin better. The Victory is cool factor 10! Did you sit on the captains toilet? Liquor bottles is right…rumour has it the captain was drunk. Did Gert tell you the history? The countdown is on eh? Hard to believe your time there is almost up. I really hope we get to see you when you guys come back to Canadia! XOX
dear talented husband:
neat effect. thanks for the compliment
wife.
She’s definitely a keeper
You are right. It is scarey to think of the work pace and the fact that you cannot miss a hearbeat when you are responsible for your passengers and yourselves. Maybe when you get back it will be at a much better pace. Three weeks to go. Amazing. It seems like you only got there last month!
