A woman bathing in the Mahaweli River near Kandy. The Mahaweli is the longest river in Sri Lanka, running through most of the island. These days it is primary used for irrigation and hydroelectricity and is heavily dammed throughout the country. It is also used for bathing, washing clothes and sewage.

Of note: the bathers were wearing sarongs wrapped around their torsos.
This is a lovely picture! And interesting info on the river - then my heart sank when I read the last line…I’m sure the local people are grateful for water but sad that it is used for sewage too…
