The Hamlet of Ulukhaktok “the place where ulu parts are found”, formerly known as Holman. Located on Victoria Island in the Amundsen Gulf, this lovely place surrounded by scenic cliffs and ocean is home to around 400 people. We were up there a few weeks ago moving garbage, crew, and empty fuel barrels out of an exploration camp on the island.

Such isolation begs the question of why people live there to begin with - but I’m assuming they have no choice? I wonder if the inhabitants of this remote community ever think of moving out and trying life somewhere else? It looks like such a difficult place to live. But it’s a great picture from the air!
Is that thunderdome way out in the far left?
we live here because it is our land. our home. our life. not that we have no choice, we love it here. whities love the warmth. eskmos love the cold. we lived up north for thousands of years, way before the white man knew how to sail. a difficult place to live for you anna, but never me.
living in a city must be noisy, chaotic. i love our small little town. maybe if you open up your small little mind, you might too. change your way of thinking. dont be so closed minded.
