Remains of the Harvest

Click picture to enlarge !

One day we were flying to Sachs Harbor and on final for landing we saw a huge fenced in pen of Muskox.  A few weeks later we came back, and the pen was empty.  Here is where they ended up!

Pictured is 3 of 6 piles of the leftover remains of the slaughter, left out on the ice for the polarbears, wolves, foxes, and birds. The food and fur will feed and support the community for the year.

This could just of easily been a macro-type shot of the melting snow. Those look like huge dump piles - and a whole lot of animals.

yeah it could be, at first I thought it was 3 small piles of sand and dirt just below your feet =)

Edgy shot. At some point, I want to get a qiviut scarf - hand woven muskox wool (and the warmest thing ever). Really popular up here.
