3..2..1..

That glorious ball of molten lava has launched itself back into the north. You don’t know how much you’ll miss it until its gone.. for a month. Officially it rose on the 6th, but yesterday was the first day we’ve seen it due to cruddy weather. Along with the 3 hours of sun came blistering -40 temperatures. I managed to gear up and get about an hour and a half walking around the delta before my camera batteries, hands, and face froze.

Absolutely beautiful! You are so right - we take for granted that the sun will shine! It must be encouraging to have it back! I’m wondering what the sun will look like from Cancun? Sure won’t be -40′!

Dang. Nice photo. I live in Whitehorse (moved here in June ‘07) and I’m amazed at how much more I pay attention to the sun (probably because I can actually see it without the grey haze of Toronto’s pollution). I have a nice south facing window in my apartment so I get to see the sunrise and sunset from one vantage point. The best part of my weekend morning is sitting on the couch reading the paper and waiting for the sunlight to fill my living room (at around 10am). The sun is setting now while I write this (behind the bluff that the airport sits on) even though it is only 1:40pm. It will be a couple more hours before it sets completely.

Wonderful picture! It sure brings back memories from my own years in Inuvik!
