The land surrounding Inuvik is filled with lakes, rivers.. rivers in lakes.. lakes in rivers– as a matter of fact, approximately 25,000 lakes. This is due to 20% of Canada draining into the Mackenzie Delta watershed which drains into the Beaufort Sea. The delta’s abundance of warmer water and rich soil allow for trees to grow above a higher latitude than they would normally in the rest of the arctic. Needless to say, it makes for some pretty beautiful scenery.

Looks like swiss cheese.
Beautiful and all that water is great for mosquitoes!
Further North, there are these fairly big lakes, with land bits inside of them and rivers running through the land…in the lakes…it’s so odd - like the ground can’t make up it’s mind to be water or land.
